Maya PLE

This is a favourite of mine. Maya is a 3D development environment, its used by companies the world over including Weta Digital.
Autodesk put out a personal learning edition (PLE) of the product. It carries a watermark on the image so you can’s use it commercially but otherwise it is a fully featured product.

Digital Distraction

This is an article published  in University affairs a Canadian e-zine. The university lecturers are concerned that students are bringing their laptops to lectures and are being distracted  - they are surfing the web, trading shares, playing games etc. Some are even proposing a laptop ban.
