The power of the medium

Much of the video posted on the web is trivial, its trite, meaningless but to be fair often humorous and entertaining, and in this it has its worth.

However, every now and then we get material that for one reason or another shapes how we think, how we act or changes our opinions. The work of Michael Wesch heps to shape our understanding of the emerging web 2 world. The brilliant works by the commoncraft show, that provide fun tutorials in “plain english” for technologies. Some like the forty hour famine television advertisement from last year shock us.

There is another video that MUST fall into this category… watch it….. its long - 12 minutes but you must watch it…. The video is called the Rape of a nation and is made by Marcus Bleasdale. … watch it…. This isn’t some party political broadcast or blog post for an up coming election. This is the story of the plight of the Democratic Republic of Congo, though the words democratic and republic have little place here … watch it….

Visit Marcus’s site, watch the video, look at the other casts. They are brilliant. Show them to our students. Visit Mediastorm too..
