We had a 12 hour flight so we arrived in Bangkok at 9.30 local time but in New Zealand time it was 1.30 in the morning. We then drove to the hotel, which was in the middle of town, this took about an hour, so we stayed up till 3.30 in the morning. I was feeling rather tired. We got up, and had to be at the airport by 8.30 this morning, so we all got up at 6am. The drive to the airport only took 20 minutes because it was the Thai New Years day and every one was on holiday.
Bangkok was SO HOT, first thing in the morning it was 30c and the humidity was right up there to.
We flew out of Bangkok upto Kathmandu - a 3 hour flight. Kathmandu is a third world city, its huge sprawling unplan and untidy, the streets are random, pockmarked and pitted. Its dirty, scruffy but bussling with life. We went for a walk in the afternoon, round the Durbar Square, which is the centre of the old city. There was a festival on at the same time, the festival was the festival of the living gods, the streets were packed with people there were street performances, the army had a parade, but the atmosphere was brilliant. The Maoist have pretty much won the election by an overwhelming majority. I hope this will lead to a change and improvement through out Nepal. The people have spoken, and spoken clearly.
The Manaslu Hotel is a nice little hotel in a third world country, and as long as you do not expect the fancy finishes of the 5 start hotels, its nice and comfortable and the food was stunning.
Tommorow we are off to the monkey temple, a 1000 year old temple on a hill top, then the umbrella orphanage and then back to the hotel to prep for the trek the following day.
More too follow….. and I will add some pictures too

I guess part of me feels sorry for you, being in a third world country, so hot, tired. I am truly having the worlds smallest violin concerto for you :-). Sounds like the fun is about to begin, look forward to seeing the photos. Oh and no IB for me
