		<description>The problem of classroom design is a huge one, as teachers we are limited by furnishings that are provided, basic classroom layout that hasn't changed across three centuries and perhaps in some case a pedagogical approach that has not changed either. 

The change has to come (unfortunately) from the top. As a classroom teacher you are unable to really change the world, you can only work in your little island, with the limited tools you have. 

Little changes in the classroom can make a huge difference... for example a study (I don't have it on hand unfortunately) looked at using sound reinforcement (speakers and a wireless microphone system) to ensure that there was an even and consistent sound level across the classroom. Measurable outcomes improved by about 30%. There are so many little things like this that can change and improve learning.

I am looking at small whiteboards - 100cm x 50cm size - that could be put on the wall for small groups to work with. Just as we do with our meetings and collaboration.

I have a computer lab that has the PC's round the edge of the room and meeting tables in the middle. These get separated to use with small groups.

		<description>I realise when I read your post that I still have a very long way to go to get my classroom and my teaching into the 21st century. I have started but I know my journey is not a short one. My biggest concern is that the classroom most of us teach in are not set up to be 21st century classroom and whilst my journey has started my employer's journey will be a long way behind mine. I do not intend to make that an excuse but an observation - and this may mean I will need to find alternate routes on my journey!
