Education for the 21st Century - eBook

Techlearning has published a number of articles that I have written over the last year. They have taken the series of post I have written on Welcome to the 21st Century and published these as an eBook called Education for the 21st Century, in their 21st Century Connections site.

Gwen has done a great job putting [...]

Dimming down - the intellectual ability of 14yr olds slipping

Ian Jukes sent me this article and I must admit I groaned when I read it. Aside from the bias and in my opinion sensationalism added to the article to make for “better reading”, this article paints only half the picture.

I can not refute the findings as I do not have the research to look [...]

I have just started to update my copy from [...]

Wikipedia - Off line version

Wikipedia is amazing. It is with out a doubt the first stop of most students as they research any topic. Its huge, its peer created and peer moderated. Its also online, and this can pose a problem. This vast body of knowledge can only be accessed via the internet, and for those with our reliable [...]

Tools for the trenches

I have long been an advocate of Free and open source software (FOSS). There are an amazing array of tools and technologies available to use from a dedicated community of enthusiasts. I applaud these people as they have done much to enable my teaching.
But while I wholeheartedly applaud them, I must also lament the situation [...]

The next big thing on the Net

“The next big killer application for the Internet is going to be education. Education over the Internet is going to be so big it is going to make email usage look like a rounding error in terms of the Internet capacity it is going to consume.”  John Chambers CEO Cisco Systems

Two websites to visit

Here are two websites that I have come across that are really quite useful.
Freesoftwaregenius - http://www.freewaregenius.com/

This site does reviews of free and open source software (FOSS). The reviews are good and detailed and there is a rich variety of tools reviewed. A good software source.
Fontstruct - http://fontstruct.fontshop.com/

Their motto Build, Share, Download fonts. This is a [...]
