Some people don’t get it
I was twittering earlier today with a colleague from another school and I asked when she was going to come over and visit us.
She replied that she had approached her principal and he had said “Why? we are a mac school and they are PC”
Some people really don’t get it. Visiting schools isn’t about what flavour of computer you use, its about what you do with it. Its about pedagogy, process, engagement, learning and teaching. No one flavour of computer has a trademark on this.
Some of the best professional learning experiences I have had have come from colleagues sitting in my class or when I have had the privilege of sitting in theirs, through professional discussions and conversations. These are not restricted to whether they use Mac, Linux or Windows operating systems

Yup. I know of this conversation too.
Perhaps the biggest tragedy is not really that they don’t get it, but that they don’t trust the people who DO.
When a leader in their field in your school wants a resource to learn, trust them. Even better, show and interest and LEARN from them.
Leaders at the top don’t need to know everything, that’s ok, but I’m astounded at the damage that can be caused by fearful leaders who won’t allow their best people to develop as those people see fit.
I trust, that YOU are trusted.
