3 have an internet connection… and we’re a connected world?
I suspect the links Derek saw were the horrible intext ads that edublogs has started serving – they look like hyperlinks, but are double underlined.

Hi Michael
I suspect you are right about the links – I checked them as soon as I found Derek’s comment.
The stats are interesting. 3% of the worlds population has an internet connect and only 7% recieve education to secondary level. We are very privilaged.
I have said for a while that digital natives are those who have by good fortune had exposure to these technologies for long periods of time. The DN’s are a small group within a small group.
I am also shocked by the revelation that 1% of Adults are HIV positive. I don’t know how much rounding is involved in this but that is a scary number.
Even if (and I am not suggesting that they are) the numbers are not hugely accurate, the general trends this shows are frightening.
Perhaps we should do something about it?

It is a very cool resource. My kids discussed and commented on it last year as a part of our making a difference project (tied into Kiwis for Kenya). Check it out http://m3rbs.21classes.com/archive/2008/08/30/miniature-earth.htm#comments

@teachernz has found some statistics that contradict the internet connection statistics from this video clip (nice 21st C skill use – validate)
http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats.htm
WORLD INTERNET USAGE AND POPULATION STATISTICS
By these statisitics the global level of connectivity has reached 21.9% this is quite a gap.
But this makes it one of those teachable moments .
