MAthematics more engaging with computers
Computerworld has reported that a recent study has shown that 10year olds are more engaged and have more fun learning maths while using computers.
Here is one extract from the article
“Calder’s research showed students understood some concepts more easily, and they encountered some concepts they would not have normally without access to the computer, for example scientific notation, he says. ” source: http://computerworld.co.nz/news.nsf/news/61E36CBC9413B68ECC25755E007ACF96?opendocument&utm_source=topnews&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=topnews
The article is well worth a read and I am looking forward to the paper being published.
Increasingly we are seeing studies like this that confirm the relationship between learning, technology and engagement. These are very positive and useful and lend weight to 1 to 1 program and furtehr integration of technologies into the classroom.

It’s not surprising that the ComputerWorld study shows that students are more engaged in learning math when using computers. One of our contributors, to the TI Teachers Lounge, recently wrote about how students are drawn to technology and are using social networking sites, texting friends etc, constantly. He believes one way for teachers to engage with their students is to incorporate their interest in technology into their lessons. You can check out some of her ideas at http://timath.com/blog/?p=442
