Elluminating experience
I have just completed an elluminate session with educators from around the world.
For me the timing was great – 12.30pm but the attending teachers were from a number of countries including Isreal where it was 1.30 am. I have to admire the dedication that I saw from teachers around the globe, who gave up their free time to attend.
My session was on Bloom’s Digital taxonomy and I must confess I was a little nervous as this is only the third time I have used this tool. But, for me, the experience was a fun and exciting one. It is very different from a traditional presentation, the buzz of quiet conversation is replaced with the back channel of chat, questions are responded to by ticks and hands up on the status pane of the session. You also tend to spend some time talking to yourself as you get little of the usual feedback from the audience. The audience I had were supportive with their chat and gestures.
All in all I am happy with the session but I have to say its easier to present with your audience in from of you. I miss the concious and subconcious feedback you get to let you know if your pitching the presntation at the right level, the murmur of success or the distracted behaviour of the bored particpant.
It is amazing how important your audience is when they are not directly in front of you.
