Periodic table of type faces

For those of us who teach principles of a graphical design, having our students understand about type face and families is important as it impacts on the two guiding principles of design:

  1. Suitable for the purpose
  2. Suitable for the audience

Oftebn students will ahve a favourite font that they will use and will stick with it like glue. Or they will hope between fonts including their favourite script or informal fonts randomly.

However I have found a little graphic that is quite useful – the periodic table of type faces. Its well worth looking at and refering to.

I didn’t know I needed a way to think about fonts; now I do. This is a practical, aesthetic post that will help me. Regards
