Learning styles and learning tools

Today was the first day of the 4 day process that we are working on with this school district.
The Morning saw Lee present a pair of stunning presentations on Understanding Digital Kids and Living on the Future Edge. Both of these were brilliant. The content was exciting and dynamic. The afternoon was mine.
My focus was [...]

Adventures in Arkansas

Well I have arrived in Arkansas. And its flat, I am missing hills. Its a pretty state farm lands indespersed with patchs of woodlands.
The process of getting here has been quite long, but I had yesterday (saturday) to recuperate in Memphis. We went out last night to BB Kings house of Blues and had 4 [...]

Last week…

… was a little quiet on the blogging front as I prepared for 2 fairly significant events.
The first event was the opening of the new block at school by John Key. My part in this was running a video conference with my Year 13 class. We were lucky enough to have a colleague to conference [...]

Announcing – Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy version 3.0

I have recently updated Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy to version 3.0. This version includes starter sheets and refreshed rubrics. It is probably still a little ragged in places so I would appreciate any suggestions and corrections.

Boys, brains and toxic lessons

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/education/article3234354.ece
This is an interesting read, and one that I am continuing to reflect on. Its looking at the gender gap and the different learning styles for boys and girls.

“In the co-educational classroom so many of the choices we make are to the advantage of girls, but disadvantage boys,” he said. “The [...]

Paper Toys

http://www.papertoys.com/
This is a fun site.
The site contains templates for building paper models of various objects. Some are downloaded as PDF files or GIF, some are images that you can copy or email from the site
Very useful for the kinesthetic learner.

Teen Authors

I blogged earlier about KidPub, I felt that this was an excellent tool for encouraging students to publish their works and encouraging literacy. I also had a good response from the owner/facilitator of the site – Perry
Well they are at it again !  with a slightly older focused site called Teen Author. This is again [...]

Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy

I have had some very positive feedback (Around the Corner)on my latest project – Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy (PDF). Its fair to say that it has also raised some other questions too.
Where does collaboration fit into the learning process. Bloom’s reflects the learning process for an individual, but increasingly we are seeing collaboration as a [...]

Video Tutorial – ReadPlease

Readplease is a text reading program. I find this an essential tool for my students. They use it in the drafting process for essays and other work. It is obviously a very useful tool for Auditory learners as well. Find the software at www.readplease.com its free for the basic version.
